COUNTRY LIFE

Have you ever smelled a quince
as you held it in your hand?
Seen grape jam on the cellar shelf
when nature blessed the land?
Braided bulbs of garlic and onions
hanging way up high
I remember country life.

Smell the sage and bay
blowing in the autumn wind
Apples' red can wither
where they have been skinned
[Housers?] slow to pull at the frost on the grass
This is country life.

Ice was on the pond
but it's never long to stay
Sunlight stretches on the hills
and fills the sky above

The quince you're holding in your hand
is warm as mother's love
This is country life.

Have you ever seen the crops grow tall
as you waited day by day?
Or have you felt the cold of winter
as the flowers fade away?

There's no place I've ever been to
could fill my heart so full
I remember country life.
